Bring edu back to state list: Stalin

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin on Friday made an appeal to the Centre to move education from the concurrent list to the state list to ensure greater autonomy for states.

He was speaking at an event in Dindigul which was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“...I appeal to the Union Government, to support and encourage efforts by bringing back education under the state list,” he said.

Tamil Nadu’s Dindigul to attend the 36th convocatio­n of the Gandhigram Rural Institute. In his address, the PM said the ideas of Mahatma Gandhi have answers for modern day challenges, including climate crisis. He added that his government was inspired by Gandhi to work towards its self-reliance goal of Atmanirbha­r Bharat.

“Whether it is about ending conflicts or the climate crisis, Mahatma Gandhi’s ideas have the answers to many of today’s challenges. As students of the Gandhian way of life, you have a great opportunit­y to make a big impact,” he said. “The best tribute to Mahatma Gandhi is to work on ideas close to his heart.”

Tamil Nadu governor RN Ravi and chief minister MK Stalin also attended the convocatio­n function.
