VICTIMS’ MOTHER HELD IN CONSPIRACY CASE, SAY POLICE

MYSURU: The mother of two girls allegedly raped by Lingayat seer Shivamurthy Murugha Sharanaru has been arrested on charges of conspiring to frame the former pontiff of the Jagadguru Murugarajendra Vidyapeetha Mutt, police said.

The woman had filed a complaint on October 13.

According to Chitradurga SP K Parashuram, the woman is a former cook at the mutt. She was arrested on charges of conspiring with the mutt’s high school teacher Basavarajendra and Mysuru-based NGO Odanadi to frame Sharanaru.

Police had registered a case based on an audio clip purportedly of a phone conversation where the woman was being incited to file the case. HT cannot verify the veracity of the audio clip independently.
