NCP LEADER BOOKED FOR MOLESTATION
THANE: NCP MLA and former Maharashtra minister Jitendra Awhad on Monday was booked on molestation charges, barely 48 hours after he secured bail in connection with a case pertaining to a ruckus at a Thane multiplex, police officials said.
Awhad tendered his resignation as a mark of protest. “I would have accepted any section against me but 354 (under IPC) is not acceptable. I have never done such an act in my life, he said. “...I will fight against this police brutality. I am deciding to resign from my MLA (sic),” he later tweeted.
Speaker Rahul Narvekar, told PTI that Awhad had not physically submitted his resignation to his office as per rules.
The alleged molestation took place during the inauguration of a bridge near Mumbra on Sunday. The woman alleged Ahwad touched her shoulders in an inappropriate way. A city court asked police not to take any action till Tuesday. Meanwhile, a case was filed against the woman under sections of SC/ST Act for allegedly humiliating workers of NCP’S women cell last month.
