BUFFERING ISSUES ANGER INDIAN FANS

- REUTERS REUTERS

The stage was all set for the opening ceremony and most Indian fans were getting ready for the moment when the World Cup would spring to life. If you were watching on Sports18, on your TV screens, you were fine. But if you, like many Indians, decided to stream the event on the Jiocinema app or website, then you were in trouble. The stream, for reasons that were not immediately clear, would just keep buffering after every few seconds for most users and that made the #Worldsgreatestshow an unwatchable experience. Following the issues, Jiocinema asked users to upgrade their app but that didn’t help either. It was fine while the studio show was on but as soon as the broadcast would shift to live action, the buffering would resume. Viacom18 Media, that owns the television broadcast and streaming rights to Fifa World Cup, had decided to show the games on its Jio Cinema app because it already has a high app download user base.

COMEDIAN SHREDS £10,000 OVER BECKHAM’S DEAL

A British comedian shredded £10,000 ($11,900) in bank notes after giving David Beckham an ultimatum to pull out of his role as an ambassador for Qatar at the World Cup. Beckham is working for Qatar, which has been criticised for its treatment of foreign workers, LGBTQ+ rights and restrictive social laws. Joe Lycett said last week he would donate the money to charity if Beckham agreed to cut ties with the World Cup host or he would shred the money before the tournament began. On Sunday, Lycett, dressed in a rainbow dress, posted footage of him putting two stacks of £5 notes into a woodchipper.

ME AND THE COACH’S DAUGHTER? NO PRESSURE, SAYS SPAIN’S TORRES

Spain winger Ferran Torres faces big challenges at the World Cup but his relationship with the daughter of coach Luis Enrique is not one of them. “Not at all,” Torres told a news conference when asked if he felt pressure because of the relationship. “I think the coach and I, we know how to differentiate between when it’s family and when we are manager and player. I think we have to get on with it in a natural way, just that and we’re getting along fine.” Torres, 22, went public about his relationship with Sira

Martinez, a show-jumper who is also 22.
