PM gives appointment letters to 71k recruits
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi distributed over 71,000 appointment letters to newly inducted recruits to publicsector posts on Tuesday via videoconferencing as part of Rozgar Mela, the Union government’s programme to fill government vacancies and generate one million jobs in the public sector.
The Prime Minister said 71,000 young men and women were given appointment letters in 45 cities and added that the central government had already distributed 75,000 appointment letters, an official statement said.
“The Rozgar Mela of today is proof that the central government is working in mission mode to provide employment opportunities to the youth of the country,” Modi said.
The physical copies of the appointment letters to the new appointees will be handed over at 45 locations across the country (except Gujarat, which goes to the polls next month, and Himachal Pradesh, where assembly elections were held earlier this month).
In addition to the categories of posts filled earlier, positions of teachers, lecturers, nurses, nursing officers, doctors, pharmacists, radiographers and other technical and paramedical posts are also being filled, the statement said. A significant number of posts are being filled by the home ministry in central armed police forces.
Modi also launched the Karmayogi Prarambh module, an online orientation course for new appointees and the Karmayogi Bharat technology platform for upskilling, according to the statement. These recruitments are being done by the ministries and departments either by themselves or through recruiting agencies such as the Union Public Service Commission, the Staff Selection Commission and the Railway Recruitment Board. For expeditious recruitment, the selection processes have been simplified and made tech-enabled, the statement said.
Modi asked various government departments and ministries in June to recruit one million people on a “mission mode” in the next year and a half. The Rozgar Mela is expected to act as a catalyst in furthering employment generation and providing opportunities to the youth for their empowerment as well as direct participation in national development. Earlier in October, 75,000 appointment letters were handed over to newly inducted appointees under the Rozgar Mela. Recalling the initiation of the Rozgar Mela a month ago, he said several Union territories and states will keep organising Rozgar Melas from time to time.
“Possibility of new jobs in both the government and private sector is continuously increasing. More, importantly, these opportunities are emerging for the youth in their own cities and villages. This has reduced the compulsion of migration for the youth and they are able to play their role in the development of their area,” Modi said.
