BHOPAL: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Yatra is set to enter Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday, where party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will join the march for the first time, people familiar with the matter said.

“After two-day break, Bharat Jodo Yatra will enter Burhanpur Madhya Pradesh and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will be joining the Yatra for four days,” Congress general secretary (in charge of communications) Jairam Ramesh tweeted.

The 3,570km cross-country march, which began on September 7, has already covered parts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Maharashtra.

During the 11-day stay in the state, Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to cover six districts and visit a gurdwara and Omkareshwar temple in Khandwa, Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain and Baglamukhi temple in Agar Malwa. “Every day is dedicated to a particular theme such as respect to farmers, women, labour, martyrs, a tribute to Covid-19 victims and an unemployment day,” MP Congress committee president Kamal Nath said.

Meanwhile, a day ahead of the Congress’s yatra, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party launched Kranti Veer Jananayak Tantya Bhil Gaurav Yatra in all tribal areas of Madhya Pradesh from November 20 to December 4.

BJP state unit chief VD Sharma said, however, said that the yatra aimed to propagate the Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led government’s welfare schemes, especially the Panchayat (Extensions to Scheduled Area) Act.
