BANNED OUTFIT’S ASSETS WORTH ₹90CR SEALED IN J&K AFTER RAIDS

SRINAGAR: The State Investigat­ion Agency (SIA) of the Jammu and Kashmir police on Saturday carried out raids at 11 places in Anantnag district and seized banned outfit Jamaat-e-islami’s assets worth ₹90 crore,according to an official statement. The central government had banned the outfit in 2019 for five years for anti-national activities.

After being notified by Anantnag district magistrate, properties were found at eleven locations in the district, the SIA said.

“To choke the availabili­ty of funds for secessioni­st activities and dismantle the ecosystem of anti-national elements hostile to India’s sovereignt­y... properties belonging or held by banned Jamaat-e-islami, J&K, in District Anantnag of South Kashmir have been notified by District Magistrate Anantnag in exercise of powers conferred by Section 8 of the UAPA Act, 1967...” the SIA statement read.“these premises/structures have been barred and entry and usage has been prohibited,” read the notificati­on fixed at these properties.
