Sans masks in public places, be ready to be penalised
In compliance with the orders of the Allahabad high court to make people wear mask to stop spread of novel coronavirus, Prayagraj police are not only penalising those found moving without masks in public but are also distributing masks to the poor.
The high court recently pulled up officials for failing to ensure strict implementation of social distancing and making people wear masks to control spread of Covid-19.
The high court also asked officials to take action against those found flouting the Covid curb guidelines. Following the orders, senior superintendent of police (SSP) Sarvshrestha Tripathi started a massive drive across the district to take action against those found without masks at public places. He also distributed masks to people.
Tripathi himself headed the checking drive in the city and conducted foot patrolling at busy market areas, densely populated localities, railway stations, bus stations and religious spots. Cops are also distributing masks to the labourers and those belonging to marginalised sections living on footpaths and slums.
The SSP said a special team was constituted at each police station to raise awareness among people and urge them to follow guidelines to stay safe.
“The teams are reaching out to people of all sections of the society and giving free masks to the poor. A penalty ranging from Rs 100 to Rs 500 is also imposed on people found without masks and violating other guidelines,” he added.
