Energy minister Shrikant Sharma on Friday asked the UP Power Corporation Ltd (UPPCL) management to ensure recovery of bills from the billing agencies concerned in case any consumer’s power consumption units were stored for three months or more and bills not issued.

Holding a meeting here, he said billing system had some shortcomings because of which innocent consumers were often harassed. He asked the management to force billing agencies to provide services strictly in accordance with the terms and conditions of the agreement.

“Correct electricity bills must be made available to all consumers on time every month and no negligence in this regard will be tolerated,” Sharma warned.

He said downloadable billing was supposed to be done by 97% in cities and villages by January, 2019 and July, 2019, respectively besides, the billing agencies collecting consumers’ mobile numbers, meter numbers and GPS location of meters.

“But the management did not ensure that this is done,” he said while asking the management to submit a report to him in this regard explaining why all this was not done.

The minister also appealed to consumers to make a call on 1912 help line number to lodge their complaint if the billing agent was not reaching their premise to read meter and issue bill to them or for any other complaint related to electricity.

The minister asked the management for speedy action on all the complaints received through the social media and the 1912 helpline.
