UP’s active Covid cases dip by 28K

The number of active cases went down from 68,235 on September 17 to 40,019 on October 11, he said. The state was also witnessing a fall in the fatality rate, he said. The recovery rate of patients in the state now stood at 89.37%, he said.

The tally of tests went up to 1.18 crore with 1,72,726 samples examined on Saturday, he said, adding that a record 63,000 RT-PCR (reverse transcript­ion polymerase chain reaction) sample tests were conducted on the day. In the last 24 hours, Uttar Pradesh’s Covid-19 infection tally reached 4,37,060 with 3,348 fresh cases, according to official data. The overall count of fatalities in the state went up to 6,394 with 41 more deaths reported in the last 24 hours.

A total of 3,417 patients were discharged from hospital in the last 24 hours. Till Sunday, a total of 3.90 lakh Covid patients were discharged across the state after recovery, he added.

Out of the 40,019 active cases in the state 18,167 are in home isolation and 3,250 are admitted in the private hospitals. The remaining patients are in government hospitals. From March onwards, 4.13 lakh health teams have surveyed 2.67 crore houses and 13.22 crore people across the state, he said.

Although there was decline in active Covid cases, people should remain alert and to protect themselves from infection, they should follow the guide

lines announced by the government — cover their face with mask, maintain social distancing and clean their hands at regular intervals, he said.

As for fatalities, Lucknow reported four more deaths in the last 24 hours, Varanasi five and Kanpur, Prayagraj, Moradabad, Ayodhya, Unnao and Farrukhaba­d two each. One death each was reported from Gautam Buddha Nagar, Bareilly, Jhansi, Shahjahanp­ur, Kushinagar, Maharajgan­j, Azamgarh, Hardoi, Sultanpur, Chandauli, Rae Bareli, Sonbhadra, Firoza

bad, Sant Kabir Nagar, Amethi, Fatehpur and Shamli.

In terms of fresh instances of infection, Lucknow reported 330 cases, Prayagraj 234, Moradabad 177, Meerut 174, Varanasi 161, Ghaziabad 138, Gorakhpur 124, Gautam Buddha Nagar 117, Kanpur 110, Bareilly 65, Aligarh 57, Jhansi 51, Agra 56, Ayodhya and Maharajgan­j 50 cases each.

47.62% Covid patients in 21-40 years age group

As many as 47.62% Covid-19 patients in Uttar Pradesh were

in the age group of 21 to 40 years, additional chief secretary (health and family welfare) Amit Mohan Prasad said.

A total of 13.77% patients were in the age group of up to 20 years and 29.04% in the 41 to 60 years age group, he added.

The percentage of coronaviru­s patients above 60 years is 9.44%.

The fatality rate among patients above 60 years is 45%. There was a need to protect elderly people from infection, the additional chief secretary Prasad said.
