No Covid death, 146 new cases in Prayagraj

Uttar Pradesh’s Covid-19 infection tally reached 4,39,294 with 2,234 fresh cases while 44 more deaths in the last 24 hours pushed the overall fatality count due to the virus to 6,438 with, according to official data.

Lucknow and Meerut reported five more deaths each, Gorakhpur and Moradabad three each, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Agra and Deoria two each, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Aligarh, Saharanpur, Barabanki, Jaunpur, Maharajgan­j, Azamgarh, Bulandshah­r, Basti, Sitapur, Unnao, Sultanpur, Chandauli, Bahraich, Sonbhadra, Amroha, Kannauj and Fatehpur reported one death each.

As for fresh instances of infection, the maximum were reported in Lucknow - 307 cases, Prayagraj 148, Gautam Buddh Nagar 121, Meerut 116, Ghaziabad 101, Gorakhpur 94, Kannauj 90, Kanpur 82, Varanasi 59, Agra 58 and Bahraich 49 cases.

The lowest number of cases were reported in Shravasti and Baghpat (one each), Kasganj (two), Mainpuri and Sant Kabir Nagar (three each), Hamipur, Balrampur and Kanpur Dehat (four each), Hathras, Pilibhit

The district witnessed no Covid-19-related death in the past 24 hours — for the first time in over five months since the pandemic broke out — in Prayagraj, on Monday. The death toll due to the Sars-CoV-2 virus remained at 288, health officials said.

The district had witnessed the first death due to Covid-19 on May 5 and by May 30 the count had touched three. However, then the deaths increased and the district registered its 50th death on July 28. The death count touched 100 on August 18 and by August 31 the death count reached 152 and further rose to 250 on September 24. The first 12 days of October alone saw the pandemic claiming 25 lives.

Meanwhile, the district did report 146 fresh corona cases on Monday. With this, the tally of Sars-CoV-2-infected people in the district rose to 21,468, they said.

However, 23 patients were also discharged from hospitals on Monday.

Now, the number of patients discharged in the district has gone up to 4,997.

Besides, 206 people who had tested positive for the virus also completed their home isolation, taking the count of patients who have successful­ly completed home isolation till date to 14,359.

The number of active patients in the district was 1,824 as on Monday night. They were under treatment at different hospitals while many were in home isolation, said district nodal officer Rishi Sahai.
