BHU, FAARD sign pact for agriculture growth
VARANASI: Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and Foundation for Advancement of Agriculture and Rural Development (FAARD) on Tuesday signed an agreement for preparing a roadmap for development of agriculture.
FAARD foundation president and former BHU VC Prof Panjab Singh and BHU registrar Dr Neeraj Tripathi signed the MoU in presence of BHU vice chancellor Prof Rakesh Bhatnagar and director of the institute of agricultural sciences, Prof Ramesh Chandra, Dean Prof AP Singh and others, said Dr Rajesh Singh, BHU public relations officer in a press statement.
Prof Singh said FAARD foundation, which has organised many types of technical cooperation, training programs for rural development since the year 2005 has signed an MoU with the BHU for making a roadmap of development of agriculture by working together on different agricultural projects, training programmes for farmers, programme of rural development and other outreach programme.
He said BHU and FAARD foundation together will prepare a report about the farmers using innovative technology in farming and how it has transformed the farming. For this, field visits of students of the Institute of agriculture sciences, BHU will be arranged, he added.
He said the foundation is presently persuading farmers to use improved varieties of seeds, use innovative techniques of agriculture and also demonstrating the techniques under Biotech Kisan project funded by department of biotechnology, Government of India.
Under the scheme, he said, a village each in four districts, including Sonbhadra, Ghazipur, Chandauli and Varanasi is being developed as model village. In these villages, the farmers have been informed about innovative techniques being used in the field of agriculture. Signed today, the MoU will give new direction to the agricultural development in Eastern UP.
