MORE ACTION LIKELY ON ATIQ AHMAD’S PROPERTIES
Action against former MP, Atiq Ahmad, was likely to continue despite the demolition of his house in Chakia. Another immovable property of his in Dhumanganj may soon be attached by officials. The police had identified many properties of Atiq Ahmad and his gang members that were earned by illegal means and forwarded the list to the administration, seeking approval for further action.
The district magistrate approved the attachment of one of Atiq’s properties in Neem Sarai area of Dhumnaganj. The administration appointed SHO Dhumanganj as administrator for taking action and a sought report in this regard by October 26.
After the orders, the police may soon attach the residential building at Neem Sarai Awas Yojna. The approval for action has been given on the report of police officials, which maintains that the property was earned through illegal means by Ahmad.
“One of Atiq’s properties that he has earned through illegal means has been identified in Neem Sarai area and will be attached soon,” said Ajeet Singh Chauhan, circle officer, Civil Lines. Joint teams of the Prayagraj Development Authority and the police had demolished the residence of former MP Atiq Ahmad at Chakia along with some other buildings belonging to him, his kin and gang members in different areas of the city. Besides, many immovable assets of Atiq and his associates had been attached on different grounds.
“The administration is taking action against mafias and gangsters in the district under the Gangster Act. Their properties earned through illegal means are being identified and reports about them are being forwarded to administration for further action,” said Sarvshreshtha Tripathi, SSP.
