Pratapgarh victim buried amid security, another accused held

Body of girl, who committed suicide after being fed up of continuous harassment by miscreants, was buried amidst heavy security at Shringverp­ur Ghat on Thursday morning.

Officials said that force has been deployed in the village as a precaution­ary measure.

Meanwhile, on Thursday another accused in incident was also arrested. The first accused was arrested on Wednesday. Both the accused are brothers, police said .

SHO Baghrai police station Umesh Singh said the man arrested on Thursday complained of chest pain and is undergoing treatment at SRN hospital in police custody.

A resident of a village in Baghrai area of Pratapgarh, the 17–year-old girl had jumped into a well on Tuesday morning and committed suicide. Her kin alleged that some miscreants had been harassing her following which she committed suicide.

On the complaint of girl’s father, an FIR was lodged and one of the miscreants was arrested on Wednesday.

Late on Wednesday night, the body was handed over to the girl’s family but they refused to perform the last rites until the arrival of their other relatives.

On Thursday morning body of the girl was buried amidst heavy security. The kin also demanded financial help, gun license and investigat­ions of the incident by a senior police official besides strict action against all the accused.

The administra­tive officials assured the girl’s family of security and compensati­on.

Tehsildar Ramjanam Yadav assured the family of the girl of all possible help besides issuing of a gun license to them.
