‘IN 4 WEEKS, 47% DECLINE IN UP’S ACTIVE CASES’

Uttar Pradesh saw a decline of 47% in the number of active Covid-19 cases in the last four weeks while the state also achieved a milestone by testing 1.25 crore samples so far, claimed the health and family welfare department.

On September 30, the state had crossed the one crore sample tests tally. Within 15 days, 25 lakh more samples were tested to intensify the fight against the coronaviru­s infection, said Amit Mohan Prasad, additional chief secretary, health and family welfare. On Wednesday, 1.54 lakh samples were tested. While 60,000 samples were tested through RT-PCR, the remaining samples were tested with rapid antigen and TrueNat machines, he said.

In the last 24 hours, UP recorded 2,728 fresh Covid cases and 3,239 people were discharged from hospitals after recovery. A total of 4,04,545 people had been discharged, taking the recovery rate to 90.42%, he added. “There are 36,295 active Covid cases in the state. In the last four weeks, there has been a 47% decline in the active cases. While 16,995 people are in home isolation, 3,041 are admitted to private hospitals while the remaining 16,259 are in government hospitals,” said Prasad.

The state was also witnessed a fall in fatality rate. On Wednesday, 36 deaths were reported in the state, taking the overall count of fatalities to 6,543. Lucknow, Kanpur and Varanasi reported three deaths each; Agra, Maharajgan­j and Ghazipur reported two deaths; Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Meerut and Bareilly.
