ON THURSDAY, THE CRIME BRANCH AND SARAI INAYAT POLICE BUSTED A 7-MEMBER GANG, HEADED BY ONE SANTOSH KUMAR OF GONDA DIST

Arrests of looters and snatchers in the district has revealed that many outside gangs are active in the district.

The crime branch busted two big gangs recently whose members were from outside the city. The gang members used to live on rent in different areas and commit series of loots and snatchings before moving to another city for the fear of getting caught.

On Thursday, the crime branch and Sarai Inayat police busted a seven-member gang, headed by one Santosh Kumar of Gonda district.

Questioning from Santosh revealed that all members of the gang were from Gonda and adjoining regions. The gang members were living in Jhunsi on rent and committing loots, snatchings across the district. The members were about to leave the city but were caught.

Earlier on Wednesday, the crime branch busted a fivemember gang of Kanpur. The gang members were involved in many sensational incidents of loots and snatchings in the city and other areas of the city.

SP Crime Ashutosh Mishra said through surveillance and informers it came to light that many gangs from outside are active in the city and are involved in loots and snatchings.

As police mostly focus on listed criminals, these gangs were able to dodge the cops. After committing g loots, these gangs move to other cities. The modus operandi of the gangs is that they keep an eye near banks and follow customers who come to withdraw cash. While some members divert attention of the person, others snatch his bag containing cash and escape. The crime branch is now trying to locate other gangs whose members may be hiding in the city, he added. Around two years back, a gang whose members were from West Bengal and South India committed theft of around Rs 1 crore from a cash van near Allahabad Junction. The members were later arrested but police failed in recovering much of the cash from them.
