India records over 67k new Covid-19 cases, 680 deaths
While Covid-19 case fatality rate has declined to 1.52%, the national recovery rate has reached 87.35% with 6mn recoveries

India’s Covid-19 tally of cases climbed to 7.3 million with 67,708 new cases in a day, while 6,383,441 people have recuperated so far pushing the national recovery rate to 87.35 per cent on Thursday, according to Union health ministry data.
The total Covid-19 cases mounted to 7,307,097 and the death toll climbed to 111,266 with the disease claiming 680 lives in 24 hours in the country, the data updated at 8 am showed.
The Covid-19 case fatality rate has further declined to 1.52 per cent.There are 812,390 active cases of coronavirus disease in the country which comprises 11.11 per cent of the total caseload, the data stated.
According to the ICMR, a cumulative total of 91,226,305 samples have been tested up to October 14 with 1,136,183 samples being tested on Wednesday.
India’s Covid-19 tally had crossed the 2-million mark on August 7, 3 million on August 23 and 4 million on September 5. It went past 5 million on September 16, 6 million on September 28 and crossed 7 million on October 11. The health ministry stressed that more than 70 per cent of the deaths occurred due to comorbidities. “Our figures are being reconciled with the Indian Council of Medical Research,” the ministry said on its website, adding that statewise distribution of figures is subject to further verification and reconciliation.
