India records over 67k new Covid-19 cases, 680 deaths

While Covid-19 case fatality rate has declined to 1.52%, the national recovery rate has reached 87.35% with 6mn recoveries

India’s Covid-19 tally of cases climbed to 7.3 million with 67,708 new cases in a day, while 6,383,441 people have recuperate­d so far pushing the national recovery rate to 87.35 per cent on Thursday, according to Union health ministry data.

The total Covid-19 cases mounted to 7,307,097 and the death toll climbed to 111,266 with the disease claiming 680 lives in 24 hours in the country, the data updated at 8 am showed.

The Covid-19 case fatality rate has further declined to 1.52 per cent.There are 812,390 active cases of coronaviru­s disease in the country which comprises 11.11 per cent of the total caseload, the data stated.

According to the ICMR, a cumulative total of 91,226,305 samples have been tested up to October 14 with 1,136,183 samples being tested on Wednesday.

India’s Covid-19 tally had crossed the 2-million mark on August 7, 3 million on August 23 and 4 million on September 5. It went past 5 million on September 16, 6 million on September 28 and crossed 7 million on October 11. The health ministry stressed that more than 70 per cent of the deaths occurred due to comorbidit­ies. “Our figures are being reconciled with the Indian Council of Medical Research,” the ministry said on its website, adding that statewise distributi­on of figures is subject to further verificati­on and reconcilia­tion.
