GUV LAUNCHES ‘PINK PATROL’ FOR SAFETY OF WOMEN IN LKO

In pilot project allwomen patrol to take immediate action on crimes against women

Uttar Pradesh governor Anandiben Patel, inaugurate­d the ‘Safe City Project’, a 180-day campaign under which the police and other department­s will work towards safety of women, on Saturday. On the first day of Navratri, she also launched a pilot project, ‘Pink Patrol’, for the safety of Lucknow women.

She flagged off 100 pink Scooties and 10 four-wheeler police vehicles. Lucknow is among eight cities in the country selected for the ‘Safe City Project’. The central government has approved the project for Lucknow at a total cost of Rs 194 crore to strengthen security of women in public places.

Meanwhile, chief minister Yogi Adityanath launched the Pink Patrol statewide, under the campaign ‘Mission Shakti’, in Balrampur, on Saturday.

Meanwhile, chief minister Yogi Adityanath launched the Pink Patrol statewide, under the campaign ‘Mission Shakti’, in Balrampur, on Saturday.

Throwing light on the ‘Safe City Project’, additional director general of police (women and child security) Neera Rawat said, “The cost of the project is shared between the centre and the state in 60:40 ratio. These vehicles have a first-aid kit, flashlight­s and other facilities. The women personnel will combat crimes against women, which will make women feel secure.”

For safety and security of women, a crack force of women personnel has been created to prevent crimes against women.

Pink Patrol is designed to take immediate action in cases of molestatio­n and crime against women in Lucknow.

After the successful implementa­tion in Lucknow, the Yogi government is looking forward to executing the Pink Patrol in other districts of Uttar Pradesh namely Kanpur, Agra, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Meerut, Noida, Ghaziabad and Moradabad very soon.

Approximat­ely 250 women police personnel have been deployed in Pink Patrol after going through a rigorous training. In the first phase of this programme, around 100 Scooties and 10 SUVs will patrol the state capital.

Under the Safe City plan, the Pink Patrol will operate in the state capital at places that have been hotspots of crime against women and have been identified by the Lucknow police.

These personnel will initially

be stationed at places including girls’ colleges, and other such places frequented by women. Patrolling will also be done on the basis of complaints and suggestion­s from women.

According to Lucknow Police officials, Pink Patrol can also be deployed at night as per the need.

‘Pink Patrol’ will also be directly connected to the nearest police station with 1090, 112 and integrated control room so that additional police force can be dispatched immediatel­y, if needed.
