Hemophilia patients face challenges

Amid the Covid pandemic, hemophilia patients are having a tough time accessing treatment as they are also in constant fear of contracting coronavirus.

Though the factors required

for treatment are available in hospitals, the patients fear going there due to the Covid situation.

According to Dr Shubha Phadke, professor and HoD, medical genetics, PGI, “The quality of care and treatment of haemophilia in India has seen significant progress over the last few years. Under the present pandemic situation, the number of such patients visiting hospital has gone down.”

Phadke added: “With the support of social workers and senior doctors, we are providing services even during Covid times. Some serious bleeds are managed by indoor admissions. But corona times reiterate the need for prophylaxis or at least on-demand home therapy.”
