WOMAN HEALTH WORKER ABDUCTED, RECOVERED WITHIN AN HOUR

A 24-year-old woman who is a health worker at the district women’s hospital, Azamgarh, was reportedly abducted at gunpoint by SUVborne kidnappers from near Pasipur Rasulpur under Kaptanganj police station area on Tuesday morning. The woman’s brother was going to drop her to work on a bike when the incident occurred, police said.

A senior police officer said that as the duo reached Pasipur Rasulpur, a Scorpio overtook the bike and stopped them.

The officer said that according to the woman’s brother, before he could understand what was happening, a man got off the vehicle and pulled the ignition key out of the bike. When he resisted, the kidnappers beat him and later forcibly dragged his sister into the SUV and fled the scene.

The officer said that the woman’s brother informed Kaptanganj police station about the incident. The Kaptanganj cops alerted their counterpar­ts in police stations in adjoining areas and a vehicle checking drive started. Within an hour, cops of Tahbarpur police station arrested two kidnappers and recovered the woman health worker safely.

The woman is married and at present, she lives with her parents.

Superinten­dent of police, (Rural Area), Azamgarh, Siddharth said that the accused had been arrested and woman health worker recovered. She was safe. During interrogat­ion, a kidnapper said that he had undergone a court marriage with the woman. Further interrogat­ion was on.

He said that the woman health worker was not saying anything clearly. The exact cause behind the incident would be clear after the probe which was underway.
