With the aim of curbing incidents of crime in the district with public support, senior superintendent of police (SSP), Prayagraj, has started e-mukhbir or e-informer click and post service.

Under the service, inaugurated by SSP Sarvshrestha Tripathi on Monday, people can inform police about crimes and criminals without being identified. An informer will be awarded by police in case a criminal is caught on the basis of information provided by them.

Under it, women can immediately report in case they face eveteasing or any other harassment. Instant action will be taken in such cases. Victims of various crimes can make a complaint or give information about the crime

on Whatsapp number 9918101617. The number will remain active round the clock and will be handled by a team of experts who will keep an eye on all information and will ensure action, the SSP said.

The information can also be sent through text messages, photographs, video or audio recordings. A confidential enquiry will

be carried out and action will be taken accordingly, the SSP added. He said names and details of informers will not be disclosed to ensure their safety.

E-informer service is similar to the network of informers with only one difference that people here can directly report crimes to police without even going to police stations.

Any citizen may now report incidents of crime in their neighbourhood to police officials on the provided WhatsApp number. A confidential enquiry of the received information will be carried out by a special team of crime branch, Tripathi added.

Cyber crimes like e- bullying or comments and posts posing threat to communal harmony may also be reported under the new service. Moreover, citizens may also report activities related to terrorism, communal tension and organised gangs.

“The e- informer service will bridge the gap between citizens and cops. The service will provide a platform to citizens to send their complaints directly to senior officials. The confidence of citizens will boost once instant action is taken against the criminals on their complaints,” Tripathi said.

The UP government’s plan to bring back mafioso and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLA Mukhtar Ansari (60) from a Punjab jail to Uttar Pradesh for hearing in pending criminal cases against him has once again failed, said senior police officials here on Tuesday.

Ansari has been in Ropad, Punjab jail for nearly 22 months.

A senior police official, privy to the development, said the Ropad jail authorities, where Ansari is presently lodged, refused to send him to UP on Monday citing an advice from a board of three doctors “for strict bed rest for three months due to his medical condition.”

The official said multiple efforts have been made to bring Ansari back to UP in past one year but every time it failed due to one or the other reasons.

He said a team of UP police was sent to Ropad jail to bring Ansari back on a warrant to produce him in the MP/MLA court in Prayagraj on October 21 in a criminal case lodged against him in January. But they had to return without him.

Besides, over a dozen criminal cases were registered against Ansari, his family
