PRAYAGRAJ : Now women helpdesks manned by women cops have come up at all the police stations of Prayagraj district, to help women report crimes and ensure quick response to their complaints.

The initiative is a part of the series of steps undertaken by the police under ‘Mission Shakti’ for the safety and security of women. Women often feel uncomfortable to narrate their problems to male cops who are usually deployed at police stations for receiving complaints.

Moreover, many women often avoid going to police stations for filing complaints in the absence of any woman cop with whom they feel more comfortable and can be intimate.

It is worth mentioning that under ‘Mission Shakti’, Prayagraj police on the occasion of Navratra has taken a series of steps to ensure better safety and security for women that includes identification of eve-teasers and miscreants involved in crimes against women, e-Jagran for creating awareness among women, sensitive policing along with women helpdesk. Under women helpdesk initiative, now women who will go to police stations will be attended by women cops. The complainant’s details along with her complaint will be entered in the computer system and will be given a receipt of their application. The women helpdesk will be manned by at least two women cops who will be trained in soft skills and dealing in all sorts of women related complaints. The reception should be completely computerised and run by women cops who should also inform the concerned SHO and the beat in-charge about the complaint made by the women.

SHO Khuldabad police station Inspector Vinit Singh said the women helpdesk is proving to be very effective in sorting out complaints of women as they are feeling more comfortable with women cops.

Nodal officer for ‘Mission Shakti’, circle officer Bairana Amita Singh said women helpdesk will formally kick start on September 23. However, after receiving the instructions in this direction it has already been set up at many police stations of the district. The helpdesk will ensure instant actions on the complaints, she added.
