YOUTH ASSAULTED, BURNT WITH ACID IN TRANS GANGA AREA

A youth was brutally thrashed and had acid poured over him in the transGanga Jugnidih village, under Baharia police station. The youth was found injured near a culvert outside the village on Tuesday morning and was admitted to hospital where his condition was reported to be serious.

Villagers spotted Amit Yadav, 25, lying injured and immediatel­y called the police. Yadav was taken to the hospital where the doctors referred him to SRN Hospital. SP trans-Ganga Dhawal Jaiswal said primary investigat­ions suggest that Yadav was going to the fields on Monday night when he was assaulted. On the basis of informatio­n provided by him, raids were being carried out to arrest the accused, he added.

Atiq’s bank accounts seized

Prayagraj police seized 11 bank accounts of former MP Atiq Ahmad under the Gangster Act. The former MP or his relatives will not be able to withdraw cash from the seized bank accounts.

SHO (Cantonment) Neeraj Walia said in the 11 bank accounts of Atiq in Prayagraj and other districts, around Rs 1 crore was found which has now been seized. Bank officials are also being asked to give details of other bank accounts of the former MP.

There were 13 bank accounts of Atiq Ahmad out of which two had been seized earlier. The permission for seizing the rest was given by the administra­tion a few days back.

SHO Walia said the bank accounts were in Prayagraj, Delhi, Lucknow, Balrampur and other cities. Bank officials were forwarded the request of seizure which was completed on Monday evening. Earlier, the police had attached properties of the former MP, while the PDA demolished his house and some other buildings of Atiq and his close associates. Police is now trying to locate the luxury vehicles of Atiq and his kin which will also be attached under the Gangster Act.
