PRAYAGRAJ : The blueprint of the much-awaited 800-meterlong Buxi Bund over-bridge has been approved and the construction work will start from November, said General Manager, Uttar Pradesh State Bridge Corporation Limited (UPSBCL), RK Singh, on Wednesday.

The residents of Daraganj, Allahapur and part of Alopibagh suffer from frequent traffic jams and the railway over bridge (ROB) will ease the traffic flow in these areas providing a sigh of relief to the people, he said. “UPSBCL has started preparations for the ROB,” said Singh. To be constructed for Rs53 crore, this bridge has been a long-standing demand of the locals as this route cuts travelling time of a large number of students and those going to offices located at Katra, Mumforganj, Old Cantonment and Phaphamau areas.

The ROB would start from the present vegetable market and would extend up to Kamla Nehru hospital and will pass over the Hashimpur crossing.

With the construction of ROB, locals coming to the city from Daraganj and surrounding areas and even those coming from Jhunsi would be immensely benefited. For a commuter, coming from Jhunsi and to Allahabad University, this bridge would cut short the distance around 3km. This would also save travelling time for the locals residing at Chota Bagadha area of the city as well.

Presently, commuters, coming to the city through this road have to cross two railway crossings. Moreover, with the doubling of railway track between Prayag Junction and Prayagraj Junction and making Prayagraj Sangam as an active railway station, the two manned railway crossings on the road of Buxi Bund are closed many times. Because of this, frequent traffic jams are a regular feature.

Earlier, the construction work of this ROB was stipulated around September but got delayed. However, now that the drawing has been approved and the budget has been sanctioned, the construction work is all set to start from next month, officials said. Moreover, deputy chief minister, Keshav Prasad Maurya had recently announced the construction of this important ROB.

Although the authorities are tight-lipped over the time that would be taken to complete the work, by going with the record (UPSBCL has constructed five ROB during Kumbh 2019), this ROB would also be constructed within a year or so.

THE ROB WOULD START FROM THE VEGETABLE MARKET AND WOULD EXTEND UP TO KAMLA NEHRU HOSPITAL
