The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probing the gang rape and murder of a 19-year-old Dalit woman in Hathras on Wednesday called the headmaster of the school, where one of the accused had reportedly studied, and asked him to come with the admission register.

The move comes even while the mother of one the accused has claimed that he is a minor but has not given anything in writing to officials. On Tuesday, the Supreme Court asked the Allahabad high court to monitor the probe.

The family members of the victim have expressed satisfaction over the Supreme Court directive. They were initially opposed to probe by CBI and had been asking for a court-monitored probe. On Tuesday, the CBI team reached the village and interrogated family members of the accused again. The team members also studied routes to and from agriculture fields in the village. The woman was allegedly gang raped in a millet field on September 14.

The CBI team had first reached the village on October 13 and started questioning those related to the case. They also visited the crime scene. The CBI team had extensively interrogated the family members of the four accused. The team also went to Aligarh jail where all these four accused are lodged. Some CBI officials also went to JN Medical College of Aligarh and interacted with doctors and staff involved in treatment of the woman who was admitted there till September 28 but shifted to Safdarjung hospital in Delhi where she died on September 29.

Initially, SIT began the probe after orders from the state government but later chief minister Yogi Adityanath recommended a CBI probe.
