PRAYAGRAJ: After Prayagraj, the police is now also preparing to take action against historysheeters and criminals of Pratapgarh, Kaushambi and Fatehpur districts of the range, besides those of Prayagraj. The police is also in the process of identifying their properties.

There are some 158 active history-sheeters in the range on whom the police is keeping a close watch on and is scanning their criminal antecedents.

Officials said that between

January and September 2020, the history-sheet of 158 criminals has been opened and their activities are being closely monitored. Some recent arrests and questioning of criminals has revealed that many criminals and gangsters commit crimes in neighbouring districts and then return to their native places.

In the past, many Pratapgarhbased criminals have been caught in Prayagraj while investigations suggested that some criminals of Kaushambi area choose Fatehpur and Prayagraj for committing loots, thefts and other heinous crimes.

In a bid to rein them in, IG (range) KP Singh has issued strict instructions to police officials of these districts to tighten the noose around them. The instructions include the identification of movable and immovable properties which they have earned through illegal means and seizing them under the Gangster Act which will end their influence and terror in their areas. As per police records, 66 history-sheeters are under the scanner of the police in Prayagraj, 41 in Pratapgarh, 26 in Kaushambi and 25 in Fatehpur districts of the range.
