Father-son killed over petty issue in Pratapgarh

PRAYAGRAJ: A father-son duo was shot dead over a petty dispute in Balipur village, under the Hathigawa police station of Pratapgarh, on Monday evening. The siblings allegedly involved in the double murder fled the spot.

Ranjeet Singh and Vipin Singh were carrying hay on their tractor. When they reached near Rajendra Singh’s house, they noticed a low-hanging electric wire running across the lane. The duo asked Rajendra (50) to lift the wire to make way for the tractor which resulted in an argument, following which Ranjeet attacked Rajendra. Meanwhile, Rajendra’s brother, Vipin, returned with his licensed gun and opened fire at Rajendra. His son, Abhay, 22, rushed to his father’s rescue but Vipin shot him too.

Two held with fake currency

Joint teams of the crime branch and Nawabganj police arrested two persons with counterfei­t currency notes worth Rs 6.50 lakh on Monday. One of the arrested accused is the husband of a village head and had planned to implicate his opponent by planting fake currency in his vehicle and then inform the police.

Youth’s murder cracked, two held

The Meja police cracked the murder of the finance company agent who was found murdered on Sunday. Police arrested two youths, who, they claimed, had confessed to have killed the agent. SP (trans-Yamuna) Chakresh Mishra said the body of finance company agent, Shrikant Patel, was found in the Meja area. Shrikant’s father lodged an FIR naming three persons. However, investigat­ions revealed the involvemen­t of two youths. The duo identified as Sonu Khan and Riyaz Khan were arrested on a tip off on Monday. The duo told the police that they took Shrikant to a deserted place on the pretext of drinking liquor then slit his throat with a broken piece of glass. They looted Rs 30,000, a laptop and a mobile phone, and fled, the SP added.
