The regional transport office, Varanasi will carry out a drive to ensure all commercial vehicles install retro-reflective tape on their backside to avoid accidents during the night and foggy condition. A heavy financial penalty of ₹10,000 will be slapped on the vehicles found without retro-reflective tape.

The regional transport officer Harishankar Singh informed that according to the provision in the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, provisions have been made to install retro-reflective tapes in the commercial vehicles.

The tapes in different shape and size are to be installed or pasted on all the commercial vehicles so that the vehicles could be visible during the winter season. In absence of the tapes, it becomes difficult to see the vehicles parked on or along the road in foggy condition due to which road accidents increase.

Therefore, each commercial vehicle must install these tapes. It should also be installed on tractor-trolleys and freight carriers to avoid inconvenience to others and reduce road accidents, the officer said.

He said that Yatri Tax officer, Kanhaiya Prasad Gupta-Mobile number 9935309524 divisional inspector (technical), Sidhu Kumar- Mobile number 9933650090 and divisional inspector (technical) Piyush Kumar- Mobile number 7985680905 have been given the responsibility to get the tapes installed.

He said that fine of ₹10,000 will be slapped if the commercial vehicle owners do not put retro-reflective tape on their vehicle.
