PATIENTS WITH CO-MORBIDITIES SHOULD REMAIN EXTRA ALERT. IF SUCH PEOPLE ARE INFECTED, THEY SHOULD IMMEDIATELY GET THEMSELVES ADMITTED TO THE HOSPITAL

Uttar Pradesh’s Covid-19 death toll reached 7,131 after 28 more people succumbed to the disease, while 1,879 fresh cases pushed the infection tally to 4,91,354, said health department officials.

The active cases count in the state rose to 23,150 on Thursday, up from 22,676 on Wednesday.

But despite the rise in Covid count, the situation was under control, said officials. The state’s recovery rate was 92%. On Thursday, 1,351 patients were discharged after recovery while 4.61 lakh patients had recovered so far.

Earlier, 80 to 90 deaths were reported daily in UP whereas 28 deaths were reported on Thursday.

Chief minister Yogi Adityanath was reviewing each death and responsibility of officers and doctors was being fixed, if any irregularity was found in treatment, said Alok Kumar, principal secretary, health and family welfare.

During review of the cause of deaths, it was found that delay by patients in getting themselves admitted to the hospitals was one of the main reasons for the fatalities. In several cases it was found that patients were shifted to hospital after their health condition deteriorated and doctors could not save them, added Kumar.

Patients with co-morbidities should remain extra alert. If such people are infected, they should immediately get themselves admitted to the hospital, he added.

Additional chief secretary, information, Navneet Sehgal said except the districts bordering Delhi, Covid cases had declined in the other districts.

In view of the Covid surge in Delhi, people should be extra cautious, he added.
