Over 47k new cases push tally to 8.4mn

India’s Covid-19 caseload went past 8.4 million, while the number of people who have recuperate­d from the disease surged to 7.7 million, pushing the national recovery rate to 92.32 per cent, according to Union health ministry data updated on Friday.

India’s total coronaviru­s cases mounted to 8,411,724 with 47,638 new infections being reported in a day, while the death toll climbed to 124,985 with 670 new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed.

A total 7,765,966 people have recuperate­d from Covid-19 so far, pushing the national recovery rate to 92.32 per cent, while the case fatality rate stands at 1.49 per cent. The number of active cases of Covid-19 remained below 600,000 for the eighth consecutiv­e day.

There are 520,773 active cases of coronaviru­s infection in the country as on date, which comprises 6.19 per cent of the total caseload, data stated. India’s Covid-19 tally had crossed the 2 million-mark on August 7, 3 million-mark on August 23 and 4 million-mark on September 5. It went past 5 million on September 16, 6 million on September 28, 7 million on October 11 and crossed 8 million on October 29. According to the ICMR, a total of 115,429,095 samples have been tested up to November 5 with 1,220,711 samples being tested on Thursday.

The 670 new fatalities include 256 from Maharashtr­a, 66 from Delhi, 54 from West Bengal, 44 from Chhattisga­rh, 31 from Karnataka, 28 from Tamil Nadu, 27 from Uttar Pradesh and 26 from Kerala.

A total of 124,985 deaths reported so far in the country includes 44,804 from Maharashtr­a, followed by 11,312 from Karnataka, 11,272 from Tamil Nadu, 7,131 from Uttar Pradesh, 7,122 from West Bengal, 6,769 from Delhi, 6,757 from Andhra Pradesh, 4,281 from Punjab and 3,744 from Gujarat.

The health ministry stressed that more than 70 per cent of the deaths occurred due to comorbidit­ies. “Our figures are being reconciled with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR),” the ministry said on its website, adding that state-wise distributi­on of figures is subject to further verificati­on and reconcilia­tion.
