Minor girl fired at brother, claim police

Police on Wednesday claimed to have worked out the mysterious assault on a 17-year-old youth who was shot at in Naini area on Tuesday night.

Investigat­ions revealed that the youth’s sister opened fire on her brother with the licensed gun of her father, a police sub-inspector posted in Azamgarh district.

The girl is a minor and has been detained for further questionin­g even as her parents claimed that the gun went off accidental­ly while she was taking a look at it, police officials said. Resident of Chak Raghunath locality, sub inspector’s son is a class 11 student and was found lying injured in his house with three bullet injuries including one on chest. The youth was immediatel­y rushed to SRN hospital where he is undergoing treatment. His mother informed police that unidentifi­ed assailants entered their house and shot at her son before fleeing away with jewellery.

However, SP trans-Yamuna Chakresh Mishra carried out investigat­ions at the crime scene and on the basis of CCTV footages and questionin­g from locals found the involvemen­t of youth’s minor sister in the crime. The licensed pistol and the missing jewellery were found concealed in the kitchen.

Further investigat­ions revealed that the youth used to bet on IPL matches and frequently demand cash from his mother. There were regular scuffles among the family members over the issue.

However, on Wednesday, girl’s father also returned from Azamgarh following which the family claimed that the gun was in the hands of the girl but went off accidental­ly, SP transYamun­a Chakresh Mishra said. The girl is being questioned further and other angles in the case are under investigat­ion. An FIR has been lodged in this connection and the gun used in the crime has been recovered, SP added.
