25 more Covid deaths, over 2K fresh cases in Uttar Pradesh

Twenty-five more people died due to Covid-19 in Uttar Pradesh on Friday, taking the death toll due to the virus to 7,327 while 2,183 fresh cases pushed the state’s infection count to 5,07,602.

Lucknow reported over 300 fresh Covid cases for the second consecutiv­e day on Friday. It logged 301 fresh cases, the maximum in the state, followed by Ghaziabad 171 cases, Meerut 166, Gautam Buddh Nagar 134, Prayagraj 97, Kanpur 79, Agra 93, Varanasi 85 and Gorakhpur 35, as per the health department.

Lucknow and Kanpur reported four deaths each, Meerut three, Prayagraj and Varanasi two each, Ghaziabad, Ayodhya and Barabanki one each.

In Lucknow, fresh cases were reported from Indira Nagar 22, Gomti Nagar 24, Rae Bareli road 21, Cantt 20, Chowk 18, Ashiana 19, Vikas Nagar 16, Jankipuram 11, Hazratganj 14. Samples of 8,379 people were taken under the contact-tracing exercise while 250 patients were discharged from different hospitals.

Lucknow has reported 66,544 cases till now, of which 62,438 have been discharged. “The

recovery rate in Lucknow is 93.82%,” said Dr Abhishek Shukla, secretary general, Associatio­n of Internatio­nal Doctors. The case positivity rate in Lucknow is 6.94%. So far, 9,58,270 Covid samples have been tested in Lucknow.

Doctors cautioned people to stay safe during festivals and avoid crowded places. “Particular­ly those who have had Covid

infection need to take extra precaution to avoid air pollution of any type,” said Prof Kauser Usman, senior faculty, KGMU.

“Some patients suffer from residual lung damage due to Covid infection and are on steroids even after getting discharged from hospitals. They need to understand the fact that their immunity is weak at this time,” he said.
