Rajaji to open from Nov 15, no private vehicles allowed

The Rajaji Tiger Reserve administra­tion passed the order for reopening of the reserve for visitors from November 15 on Friday.

According to the order passed by director of the reserve, DK Singh, all the visitors have to undergo thermal screening mandatoril­y on entrance.

“The reserve will reopen for the visitors post lockdown on

November 15.

A small ceremony would be held at the reserve’s main gate at Mohand at 11am on the day following which other gates would be opened,” said Singh.

“All the visitors would have to undergo thermal screening at the gates as per the Covid-19 precaution­s.

Sanitisers would also be kept at the gates for them,” said the director of the reserve, DK Singh.

Only registered vehicles would be allowed for safari till range level with a complete prohibitio­n on the entry of private vehicles,” Singh further added.

Rajaji Tiger Reserve opens from November 15-June 15 but due to lockdown imposed in Uttarakhan­d in mid-March, the park gates were closed for tourists. Spread across 820 square kilometre in the three districts, Pauri Garhwal, Haridwar and

Dehradun, Rajaji Tiger Reserve was formed in 1983 named after last Governor General of India C Rajagopala­chari.

Later, it was renamed in April 2015 as Rajaji Tiger Reserve, becoming the 48th tiger reserve in the country to boost tiger population in the park ranges.

Rajaji Tiger Reserve is also home to Asian elephants and a large number of mammals and avian species.
