LUCKNOW : Students of the Lucknow University will get to savour a cocktail of science, satire and poetry in a programme ‘Scientainment’ scheduled for November 23 at 2.30 pm, as part of the centenary celebrations of the university.

The programme aims to popularise science among students in a humorous way. Organisers hope that through ‘scientainment’ they will be able to give the perfect dose of literature, science and humour to students. The programme will be presented by Pankaj Prasun who was ranked among the 30 top Youth Icons of the country by India Today in 2019. Prasun is known for his humorous science poetry all over the country.

Prasun said, “Although I am called by many TV channels and literary fest organisers and I have recited poetry from the country’s largest Red Fort Kavi sammelan, but this invitation from Lucknow University is most treasured as I have studied in this university. This university has made me a scientist and a poet of international repute.”

He said, “Through my science poetry, I have tried to get poetry free from the clutches of romance, fantasies and take it into the realm of science, that’s why presenting Scientainment at Lucknow University is an achievement for me.

“Earlier, poetry was considered something connected with romance and fantasies. But I was a science student and wanted to write something about science. That is when I started writing poetry to popularise science among the masses. Having served as a technical officer at the Central Drug Research Institute, I knew I had the knack for writing science poetry. So, I started mixing science in my verses and, to my surprise, my poems became overnight hits, especially among the youth. Now, I present science poetry sessions all over the country,” says Prasun.

During the last International Women’s Day celebrations, Pankaj Prasun poem ‘Ladkiya Badi Ladaka Hoti Hai’, was read by Anupam Kher at the Times Square in New York. He even called Pankaj Prasun and congratulated him for his excellent creation.
