KANPUR: Two former landlords of irrigation department junior engineer Ram Bhavan Singh in Karvi Chitrakoot on Wednesday said they had evicted him from their houses within months of him moving in because of his alleged activities with children. They made the claim after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Ram Bhavan for allegedly sexually abusing children in a period spanning almost 10 years.

Following these two instances of eviction, Ram Bhavan brought his wife from the village to live with him as he was not getting any accommodation otherwise, the landlords said.

After being transferred to Chitrakoot about 11 years ago, he had rented the house of Kakku Singh, a resident of Sikri village. “Within a month, the neighbours complained to me about his activities; he was living alone at that time,” Kakku Singh said. “He had hired a woman to prepare food for him. Her two minor daughters accompanied her. That was the reason. People had a problem with his conduct. I asked him to leave the house immediately. He stayed just for 40 days in my house,” said Kakku Singh, adding that if necessary he would testify before CBI as well.

Ram Bhavan Singh had to face a similar situation when he took another house on rent close to his office in Karvi. He remained there for less than a month as the landlord, citing his activities, issued him an ultimatum. This landlord, who did not wish to be named, said Ram

Bhavan’s activities were unusual and he did not want any problem.

The current house was the fourth where he moved in 2013. He brought his wife from the village to ward off any suspicion. According to officials, the role of his wife was being actively looked into to ascertain if she was aware of his acts. She would face the law if she had been aware of his activities, an official said.

The CBI plans to question the family members in the coming days.
