Modi reviews security after terror plot foiled
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a review meeting on Friday to take stock of the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, a day after security forces thwarted a terror attack that was allegedly planned to disrupt the upcoming local body elections in the Union Territory.
He also applauded the security forces for averting the terror attack.
Tweeting about the meeting that was attended by the Union home minister Amit Shah, national security adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval, and a host of top officials, the PM said, “Neutralising of 4 terrorists belonging to Pakistan-based terrorist organisation Jaish-e-Mohammed and the presence of large cache of weapons and explosives with them indicates that their efforts to wreak major havoc and destruction have once again been thwarted.”
Acknowledging the role of the security forces in averting the terror attack, he said, “Our security forces have once again displayed utmost bravery and professionalism. Thanks to their alertness, they have defeated a nefarious plot to target grassroots level democratic exercises in Jammu and Kashmir.”

following specific inputs that terrorists were trying to infiltrate and disrupt the upcoming district development council (DDC) elections in the Union Territory.
Several incriminating materials and ammunition, including eleven AK-47 rifles, three pistols, 29 live grenades, six UBGL grenades, mobile phones, compass, pithy bags, were recovered from the slain terrorists.
A senior police official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that the terrorists had infiltrated from across the international border in Jammu region before boarding a Kashmir bound truck on PathankotJammu national highway the preceding night.
According to an official aware of the developments, the review meeting was called after intelligence inputs found that the terrorists were planning “something big” on the anniversary of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.
On November 26, 2008, 10 terrorists belonging to Pakistanbased Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) targeted India’s financial capital in a series of coordinated shootings and bombings, including at the inconic Taj Mahal Palace Hotel near the Gateway of India, killing 166 people and injuring over 300 others.
DDC polls in J&K will be held from November 28 to December 22. Results will be declared on December 22.
