School girls take charge of police stations for a day

VARANASI: For Sakshi Pandey, a student of Class 12 at Raghavram College here, assuming the charge of a station officer for a day at Shivpur police station was a thrilling experience.

Bhumi Yadav, who worked as station officer at Luxa, Saumya Patel, who was made station for day at Lalpur-Pandeypur police station, Muskan Sonkar who held charge as station officer at Bhelupur and Archana Tiwari, who was inspector for a day at Lohta police station, echoed similar sentiments.

Shweta played the SO for a day at Jaitpura, Anamika at Chetganj, Gracy Kushwaha at Sigra, Swadha at Lanaka police Station, Janhavi was made station officer for a day at Chaubepur.

The girls assumed charge at several police stations station for a day at the instructio­ns of senior superinten­dent of police Amit Pathak.

The idea was to give them exposure of functionin­g of the police on the occasion of Children Day.

Saumya Patel, a student of eighth standard at Raj English School, Ramduttpur, was station officer for a day at LalpurPand­eypur police station.

She was received by station officer Inspector Vedprakash Rai. In his presence she sat on station officer’s chair and listened to the applicants. She instructed inspector to take quick action to address the complaints by people.

Station officer for a day at Lohta police station Archana Tiwari listened to 14 complainan­ts and instructed the cops to take quick action in four cases and resolve remaining 10 as fast as one could.

Patel said, “I want to be a doctor. But after working as station incharge for a day, I have new experience and feel that it is good to be a police officer because it gives you authority to address the problems of people.

After completing my education, I will prepare for the Indian Police Services.

Following the instructio­ns of the SSP, superinten­dent of police (traffic) Shravan Kumar Singh, nodal officer for Mission Shakti ensured successful implementa­tion of the station officer for a day. Singh said the girls listened to the complainan­ts, went through their applicatio­ns and passed instructio­ns to resolve the problems.

They were also apprised about the process to register FIR, monitoring of cases, and ways to listen to women complaints and various helpline numbers and safety measures for women and girls, he added.
