This is the first case of such action in Uttar Pradesh, said UP police spokesman AN Tripathi.

Superintendent of police (City) AN Singh said most of the people in the marriage party burst firecrackers, which is banned in the district by the National Green Tribunal. The case was registered under the Indian Penal Code’s Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) and relevant sections of the Epidemic Act against the owner of Baijal Bhawan, which is situated in the Civil Lines area here, at Lalkurti police station, the SP City said.

He also said that the Civil Lines police here took suo motu action in the matter.

Similar action would be taken against other banquet hall owners and family members of other brides and grooms if they violated the Covid protocol during celebrations, he said.

The state police spokesman further added that the police officers in districts have been asked to remain observant and initiate stern action over violation of the guidelines laid for public gatherings.
