Andhra officials to visit Kashi to study waste management
VARANASI : A team of officials from Andhra Pradesh will study the ‘Banaras Model’ of solid and liquid waste management which has improved cleanliness in the ancient city known for its iconic ghats and maze of narrow lanes.
After instructions from Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy, the team will arrive in Varanasi on November 28 on two-day visit and will study planning and implementation of the cleanliness drive in Kashi. A number of steps taken to improve cleanliness in the city have begun showing results.
The Andhra Pradesh CM instructed principal secretary Praveen Prakash to study the planning and implementation of cleanliness drive in Kashi and prepare a plan accordingly, according to a press communiqué from the Uttar Pradesh government.
Sending a letter to the UP CM’s office, the government of Andhra Pradesh praised the work done in Varanasi under the ‘Namami Gange’ programme.
Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, several steps are being taken in a timely manner in Varanasi to improve the condition of the ghats and make the Ganga completely pollution-free, it stated. Steps are also being taken to address the problem of waste floating on the surface of the river.
Tirupati Tirumala Devasthanam to establish a temple in Kashi
The world-famous Tirupati temple trust of Andhra Pradesh is trying to set up a temple in Kashi, the city of Mahadev.
The temple proposed by Tirupati Tirumala Devasthanam Trust will be set up on about 5 acres. During their visit to the city, Andhra Pradesh officials will also look for land for the temple.
