LUCKNOW: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday asked the police and the districts’ administration not to harass or misbehave with the families and organisers holding weddings over the Covid-19 protocol, said the chief minister’s information officer.

Harassment of people in the name of guidelines would not be tolerated, Adityanath said.

The chief minister said responsibility in this regard should be fixed and the people should be encouraged to follow Covid-19 guidelines.

The chief minister’s warning comes after the police in Meerut had registered a case against a banquet hall owner and the fathers of both the bride and the groom for violating the Covid protocol at a wedding event on Tuesday.

The case was registered under the Indian Penal Code’s Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) and relevant sections of the Epidemic Act.

“The chief minister has said that the police and the administration should not harass people over the Covid protocol at weddings. Instead, (they should) make and encourage people to follow all safety protocols. In any case of such harassment or misbehaviour by the police, the administration personnel would face action,” the officer said.

The state government also emphasised that the cap of 100 guests at weddings excluded band players, DJ or catering and other staff. The chief minister said there was no ban on bands in marriage ceremonies and marriage functions could be held in accordance with the Covid-19 guidelines by giving information in this regard to nearest police station/ police outpost.

He said action would be taken if administrative and police personnel were found banning bands and DJ.

The chief minister was reviewing the Covid-19 situation at a high-level meeting convened at his official residence.

CONDUCT 1.5L-1.75L TESTS DAILY

Yogi Adityanath urged the people to follow Covid-19 protocol completely, adding that testing should be optimised. He said 1.5 lakh to 1.75 lakh Covid-19 tests should be done every day in the state.

While 40% tests should be done by the RT-PCR (reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction) method, the remaining 60% should be conducted by the rapid antigen method.

He asked for carrying out contact tracing work expeditiously. The integrated command and control centres should be run actively in all the districts, he added.

Yogi Adityanath also said district magistrates and chief medical officers should hold review meetings in the morning at Covid hospitals and then do so at the integrated command control centre in the evening.

Calling for an improvement in the recovery rate, he said the chief minister’s office and the chief secretary’s office should get details even if a single death was reported from a district. The additional chief secretary, health, should hold a video conference with the chief medical officers of such districts while the additional chief secretary, medical education, should do so with the principals of medical institutes.

He said the public address system should be used to educate people about measures for protection against Covid-19. Necessary steps should be taken to increase the number of beds after evaluating the need, he said.

The chief minister also said regular availability and supply of oxygen along with medicines and medical equipment should be ensured in Covid hospitals.
