Crop residue mgmt to roll out in seven NCR districts of UP
LUCKNOW: The Central government has sanctioned Rs 22.56 crore for the implementation of climate resilience building in rural areas through crop residue management in seven NCR (national capital region) districts of Uttar Pradesh, said chief secretary Rajendra Kumar Tiwari in a statement issued by his office on Thursday.
The chief secretary was chairing a meeting of the statelevel screening committee under the National Adaption Fund on Climate Change. The chief secretary is the chairman of the state-level screening committee.
The development has come under the national policy for management of crop residue by the union ministry of environment, forest, and climate change.
The seven Uttar Pradesh districts where the project will be rolled out are: Meerut, Baghpat, Bulandshahr, Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Hapur, and Muzaffarnagar, the statement added.
The meeting discussed the project component and financing for the installation of biocoal plants, bio-CNG (compressed natural gas) and biomanure plants in the seven districts. Under the project, bio energy will be produced under agricultural residue and other means of bio-degradable waste management. The projects will be executed through farmers producers’ companies and MSME level entrepreneurs.
At the meeting, Tiwari asked entrepreneurs to start preparing projects. The meeting was attended by several entrepreneurs, and officers from the agriculture, forest, environment, animal husbandry departments and Nabard (National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development), the statement said.
