Crop residue mgmt to roll out in seven NCR districts of UP

LUCKNOW: The Central government has sanctioned Rs 22.56 crore for the implementa­tion of climate resilience building in rural areas through crop residue management in seven NCR (national capital region) districts of Uttar Pradesh, said chief secretary Rajendra Kumar Tiwari in a statement issued by his office on Thursday.

The chief secretary was chairing a meeting of the statelevel screening committee under the National Adaption Fund on Climate Change. The chief secretary is the chairman of the state-level screening committee.

The developmen­t has come under the national policy for management of crop residue by the union ministry of environmen­t, forest, and climate change.

The seven Uttar Pradesh districts where the project will be rolled out are: Meerut, Baghpat, Bulandshah­r, Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Hapur, and Muzaffarna­gar, the statement added.

The meeting discussed the project component and financing for the installati­on of biocoal plants, bio-CNG (compressed natural gas) and biomanure plants in the seven districts. Under the project, bio energy will be produced under agricultur­al residue and other means of bio-degradable waste management. The projects will be executed through farmers producers’ companies and MSME level entreprene­urs.

At the meeting, Tiwari asked entreprene­urs to start preparing projects. The meeting was attended by several entreprene­urs, and officers from the agricultur­e, forest, environmen­t, animal husbandry department­s and Nabard (National Bank for Agricultur­e and Rural Developmen­t), the statement said.
