PRAYAGRAJ: The historical Mughal-era Khusro Bagh will soon get a makeover to attract more visitors.

As per the plan, some of the nurseries of mangoes, guavas and aonla etc of the horticulture department existing in the garden will be shifted and arrangements will be made for children to have various kinds of swings here, said official of Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA).

“It will be made on the lines of Shaheed Chandrashekhar Azad Park. There will be a walking track for people who frequent the lush green park that surrounds the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI)-protected monument for walks in the morning and evening,” they said.

Chief horticulturist of Horticultural Experiment and Training Centre, Khusro Bagh Krishna Mohan Chaudhary said the proposal for shifting part of the nursery to a site in Shankargarh and Saidabad was being prepared.

The process will begin from next financial year, he added.

Once developed, visitors would have to pay entree fee. However, in shifting the nurseries of mango, guava and aonla etc the mother trees would not be disturbed. The survey of the site where the nurseries are to be shifted has been completed, he added. Situated over 40 acres of land near the Prayagraj junction, the quadrangle shaped Khusro Bagh is already popular among the locals and other tourists.

The tomb of Khusrau is the last of the three tombs. Khusrau was first imprisoned within the garden after he rebelled against his father Jahangir. He was killed in a bid to escape on the orders of his brother and Jahangir’s third son Khurram, who later became Emperor Shah Jahan.
