Uttar Pradesh records 25 more Covid deaths, 2,036 fresh cases

LUCKNOW : Two days after reporting zero deaths, Lucknow saw seven fatalities due to Covid on Sunday, while its infection tally rose to 9,912, the maximum in the state.

So far, 991 people in the state capital had succumbed to the virus. UP’s corona count reached 5,41,873 with 2,036 fresh cases while the state’s death toll due to the virus mounted to 7,742 with 25 more fatalities, according to the health department.

Lucknow had logged six deaths on Saturday and zero deaths a day prior to that. Gorakhpur reported two fresh fatalities while Kanpur, Prayagraj, Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Varanasi and Meerut saw one death each. Bareilly reported zero deaths.

During the day, Lucknow also

reported the maximum fresh cases – 342, Kanpur 108, Prayagraj 71, Ghaziabad 113, Gautam Buddh Nagar 123, Meerut 230 and Varanasi 85. In all, 334 patients were discharged while samples of 9,715 people were taken under the contact-tracing exercise.

Lucknow had reported 71,466 Covid cases so far, of which 66,771 had recovered. “The recovery rate in Lucknow is 93.42%,” said Dr Abhishek Shukla, secretary general, Associatio­n of Internatio­nal Doctors.

Fresh cases in Lucknow were reported from Indira Nagar 34, Aliganj 14, Gomti Nagar 35, Gudamba 16, Rae Bareilly 19, Alambagh 15, Chowk 17, Ashiyana 12, Mahanagar 16, Jankipuram­15, Vikas Nagar 15, Thakurganj 11, Hazratganj 15 and Sarojinina­gar 10. The health department had initiated steps for digital mapping of areas reporting fresh cases to help teams visit the houses quickly. This will help in testing more close contact of the cases. The data of each case will be fed digitally and teams will visit homes via digital map.
