PRAYAGRAJ : The Basic Education Council has released the list of district allotment of 36,590 candidates selected in the second phase of 69,000 assistant teachers’ recruitment drive for the government-run primary schools of the state, said officials.

As per the list, in the second phase of the teacher recruitment drive, 48% of the 36,590 candidates are women while 19,027 (52%) are male. Counseling of the candidates included in the list will be conducted between December 2 and 4, said secretary Basic Education Council Pratap Singh Baghel.

The selection list of 67,867 candidates was released on June 1 against 69,000 vacant posts. However, 1,133 posts had remained vacant due to nonavailability of Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates. Out of the 67,867 candidates declared selected, 31,277 have been selected in the first phase of the recruitment drive as per merit, the list of which was released on October 12. However, the selection list was delayed due to the Supreme Court order on the cutoff of written examination of teacher’s recruitment on November 18. In the meantime, the UP Basic Education department started the second phase of the recruitment drive.

The Supreme Court in its November 18 order had dismissed pleas by the Uttar Pradesh Shiksha Mitra Association, which had challenged the state government’s order of January 7, 2019 fixing the qualifying marks for the Assistant Teacher Recruitment Examination 2019 at 65 and 60 for the general and reserved categories, respectively.

Giving the go-ahead for recruitment of 69,000 assistant basic teachers in accordance with the results declared in May, a Bench led by Justice UU Lalit had recorded an assurance by the state government that Shiksha Mitras would be given a last opportunity to attend the next recruitment examination, the modalities of which would be decided by the government.

The court also did not intervene against the state’s position that the cut-off percentage was increased by 20% to draw the best candidates.

The notification for the recruitment of 69,000 Assistant Teacher was released in December 2018 and the process of application continued till December 24. The written examination was conducted on January 6, 2019. The Answer Key for the examination was released on January 8, 2019 while the revised ‘Answer Key’ was released on May 9, 2020.

At the same time, the joining process lasted from May 18 to May 28 2020. However, the petitions filed in the Supreme Court and the Allahabad High Court at various levels led to delay in the selection process.

THE SELECTION LIST OF 67,867 CANDIDATES WAS RELEASED ON JUNE 1 AGAINST 69,000 VACANT POSTS.
