VARANASI : A group of farmers and social workers of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s adopted village Nagepur staged a dharna in front of Nand Ghar in the village on Friday and extended support to the farmers staging demonstration against agri reform laws on Delhi Border.

The farmers set afire copies of the agri reform laws.

Farmers Ramsahare, Vijayi, Kallu, Brij Kumar and Shyam Sundar unanimously appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to listen to the agriculturists and resolve their problems.

They demanded that the agricultural reform laws should be cancelled. If the farmers’ demands were not accepted, they would take to thestreets and launch a massive stir, they said.

Shyam Sundar, a social worker and farmer, said that the farmers worked hard and grew food grains to feed the people. At present, listening to the farmers protesting against the agri reform laws should be top priority of the government. But the government was trying to justify the reforms.

Social worker Nand Lal Master said, “We oppose the three agri reform laws of the centre. We condemn the action against the farmers marching to Delhi in protest. Everyone has the right to express his opinion in democracy. Farmers are on the streets in protest against the agri reform laws. But the government at the centre is not paying attention to their demands. The government must accept their demands and agri reform laws should be fully repealed.”

Nagepur is in Rajatalab area of Varanasi. On Monday, during his visit to Varanasi, PM Modi addressed a rally in Khajuri village, around 10 km off Nagepur and strongly justified the new farm laws.
