Khaki relief: Not just policing, but food and masks to homeless
PRAYAGRAJ: Besides maintaining law and order, police personnel are now also ensuring that the homeless find shelter at ‘raen baseras’ (night shelters) and do not sleep hungry.
In Sangam city, police personnel patrol the Old City areas after dark, near railway stations, and other public places. It is ensured that elderly found sleeping on footpaths and open places are given place at raen baseras so that they are safe during winter.
Police personnel are also distributing food packets to the poor at these shelters besides giving them free masks to keep them safe from Covid-19. Officials are also ensuring that social distancing and other precautions are taken at these shelters where the homeless and poor from outside the city often take shelter.
On Thursday night, personnel led by Shahganj circle officer Satyendra Tiwari and Khuldabad SHO inspector Vinit Singh patrolled around Prayagraj Junction, Khusru Bagh and the areas around the railway station.
They distributed food packets to many persons, especially the elderly who were found sleeping on footpaths, open places or temporary shades. Many of them were taken to the raen basera in Khuldabad to spend the night.
Tiwari said that besides food, masks were also given to the poor to stop the spread of coronavirus.
Khuldabad SHO Singh said it is also ensured that besides markets and other public places, social distancing and other coronavirus protocol are followed at night shelters and at places where labourers and homeless often spend the nights.
Moreover, regular checking drives are launched in the area to make people wear masks.
