UP crosses 5.5L Covid-19 cases

LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh crossed 5.5 lakh Covid-19 cases mark in 277 days.

With 1,985 fresh cases during the past 24 hours, the total Covid count in the state reached 5,51,179 while death toll reached 7,877 with 29 fresh fatalities.

“In a day, the state will cross 2 crore Covid sample testing,” said Amit Mohan Prasad, additional chief secretary while sharing the Covid statistics in a press conference on Friday. The state has tested 1,99,60,393 samples till now. The case positivity rate in the state is 1.3%.

Lucknow reported 259 fresh covid Cases, Kanpur 48, Ghaziabad 117, Gautam Budha Nagar 75, Meerut 224, Prayagraj 82, Varanasi 120.

While Lucknow reported maximum five deaths, two each deaths were reported in Meerut, Prayagraj and Varanasi and one in Kanpur.

Lucknow has till now reported 72,838 cases of which 68,340 have recovered and 1,020 deaths have been reported. “The recovery rate in Lucknow is 93.82% while fatality rate is 1.40%,” said Dr Abhishek Shukla, secretary general, associatio­n of internatio­nal doctors.

In all 305 patients were discharged while samples of 11,191people were taken under contact tracing.

Fresh cases were reported from Indira Nagar(21), Gomti Nagar (27), Rae Bareilly Road (19), Ashiyana (11), Jankipuram (12), Aliganj (10), Hazratganj (14), Alambagh (10), Mahanagar (14).

Lucknow has till now reported 1,020 deaths, maximum among other districts in the state. Elderly Covid patients contribute­d 46.36% of the total Covid related deaths in the state capital.Of the total deaths reported 510 were above 60 years of age, while 371 patients between 41 and 60 years died.

In all 71 Covid patients between 31 and 40 years of age died while 40 of those between 21 and 30 and 7 between 11 and 20 years of age died till now. In all six children between 1 and 10 years of age died due to Covid related problems.

“Elderly persons between 65 and 74 years suffer from an average of 4 or 5 chronic conditions and this is increased to 5 or more for those 75 years or above. Study in Lucknow has revealed,” said Prof Kauser Usman, HoD geriatric medicine at the King George’s Medical University. Comorbidit­y, including, diabetes, hypertensi­on, heart disease, renal disease, dementia, arthritis makes elderly vulnerable to Covid.
