Hosps better than home care, elderly to be told
Administration to rope in NGOs and other field staff for the drive
LUCKNOW: The district administration is set to launch a drive to discourage Covid-19 patients, especially the elderly ones, from preferring home isolation over hospitalization. The drive is expected to take off from December 5 onwards.
The administration will rope in NGOs and other field staff to discourage home isolation.
The move follows the state government directive asking the district administration to avoid allowing home isolation permission to the elderly people.
“The move has been initiated on the basis of recent trend in which it was observed that the person staying at home is taking a little longer time to recover than those who are hospitalised. Also, officials said that it is found that those Covid-19 patients who are staying back home are not following the protocol religiously,” said an official.
“Off late, we have observed a trend in which a majority of people are preferring home isolation even when they were allocated the ambulance and hospitalisation facility. It is also observed that the patients staying in home isolation are not following the Covid-19 protocol properly,” said Abhishek Prakash, district magistrate, Lucknow.
As per the records, on Thursday around 111 people, who tested positive, were allocated hospital and ambulance facilities. However, of the total only 58 could be hospitalised while rest refused preferred to stay back home under home isolation.
On December 2, 82 patients were allocated with hospitalisation and ambulance facilities against which 31 patients preferred to stay back home.
“Keeping the trend in mind, we have decided to launch a drive in which we will be discouraging home isolation as patients often ignore Covid protocols while staying under home isolation,” the DM added.
