‘WILL ENSURE TRAFFIC IS NOT HIT DURING BANDH’

LUCKNOW : With farmer unions geared up to observe ‘Bharat Bandh’ on Tuesday, Meerut police and the district administra­tion has made elaborate arrangemen­ts to ensure that daily commuters to not face much inconvenie­nce.

Praveen Kumar, IG Meerut Range, who himself is camping in Ghaziabad to keep a close watch on the ongoing protest said, “On the basis of intelligen­ce inputs, we have made heavy ‘bandobast’ at all the vulnerable districts, highways and roads in order to keep a check on the protest on Tuesday.”

Kumar said that the police would ensure that the protest may not affect the traffic movement, especially emergency vehicles.

Kumar said that the police would ensure that the protest may not affect the traffic movement, especially emergency vehicles.

“We have also activated diversions in order to divert traffic on the alternativ­e routes in order to avoid any traffic jams,” Kumar added.

However, farmer leaders in the area said they would be supporting the ‘Bandh call’ religiousl­y.

“It’s not the matter of ‘Bandh’, it’s about our rights. Hence, we would be holding the protest in every possible manner,” said Dharmendra Malik, state spokespers­on, Bhartiya Kisan Union.

Malik said they have requested farmers in different districts of West UP to stage protest at their respective locations. “We have requested local farmers to stage demonstrat­ions in their respective areas and block nearby highways between 11am to 3pm,” said Malik.

He said they have also appealed traders and the transporte­rs, businessme­n to support farmers.

“Operations of trucks and other commercial vehicles will remain suspended on Tuesday in support of ‘Bandh Call’. Also, our delegation of around 15 transporte­rs would go to Singhu Border in Delhi to extend their support to farmers’ movement,” said Gaurav Sharma, convener, Meerut Transport Associatio­n.

Chaudhary Diwakar Singh, national vice president BKU (Bhanu) said they would be protesting at the Chilla border in Noida.
