Civil Defence warden of Sangam city wins DG’s Disc Medal
PRAYAGRAJ : For the first time in more than five decades, a warden of Civil Defence (Chowk Division), Mani Mehra has achieved the rare feat of being awarded Disc Medal and commendation certificate from director general (DG) fire service, Civil Defence and Home Guard, New Delhi.
Every year the central government award select volunteers of Civil Defence for their selfless service across India with the prestigious Disc Medal. This medal is awarded on Republic Day. This year, seven volunteers from UP will be awarded this honour. The announcement of the award was made in a meeting of officials of the district administration, held on Sunday. December 6 is celebrated as the Civil Defence Day in India.
The meeting was attended by district magistrate, Prayagraj, SSP, deputy controller of Civil Defence, chief warden of Prayagraj, divisional warden of Chowk and all volunteers from the city.

For the last 20 years, Mani has been giving his services as the warden of Chowk division. For his services in 2018, Mani was awarded the directorate certificate. This year during corona crisis, the volunteers of Chowk division distributed free food, masks and sanitizer for two months to more than 2000 needy people under his able guidance. For this the district administration had also tagged his as one of the corona warriors of the district.
